An acquaintance of mind, William C. Cook, wrote a book called Success, Motivation and the Scriptures, in which he defined success as "the continued achievement of God-given goals." I once asked my oldest child how her friends would define success, and she gave me the best worldly definition of success I have ever heard: "To have whatever you want whenever you want it."
One perspective is eternal(long-term) and the other is exceedingly short-term: "I want what I want when I want it." Not only do I want what I want when I want it, but I have a right to it. Both the Christian and the non-Christian are concerned with success, but in each case success is always relative to goals. The difference is perspective. One view sees only the here and now; the other sees the unseen. What one's perspective is(or to put it another way, what one believes) will determine attitudes and actions. That is why the Christian, in managing his or her money, is different.

My own 2 cents - Christians should manage their money, time, lifestyle...everything differently! We see something far more beautiful ahead than the world does! It should show in every aspect of our lives! Making GOD's priorities OUR's...this can be difficult at times living amidst a world that thinks the exact opposite, but God can mold our hearts to be like His, if we ask Him. I think it pleases Him tremendously when we come to Him and ask for such things! His heart is exceedingly glad that we desire it!
