It was a life-and-death struggle. The fate of mankind, His children, whom He dearly loved, was at stake. He yearned to deliver them from Satan. The words uttered by Jesus during this battle revealed His heart. Not words of mistrust and rebellion against God, but rather deeply moving words came from Jesus' lips in response to all the torment that God let Him undergo. "My Father, not as I will, but as Thou wilt." In His childlike trust Jesus surrendered His will to God. This was the weapon with which He defeated the prince of death and emerged from the battle as Victor.
Today in our dark world, assailed by Satan, when we are engulfed in hardships, fears and temptations, we shall find Jesus, the living Lord and Victor, if we use the same weapon - childlike trust and dedication to the will of God. Thus, it is vital that we pray Jesus' words, "My Father, not my will, but Thine be done." These words contain power to overcome in temptation and suffering.
