Toss Them Out!

Those inventive people, the Italians, have a wonderful custom. As midnight approaches on New Year's Eve, the streets are cleared. There is no traffic; there are no pedestrians; even policemen take cover. Then at the stroke of midnight the windows of the houses fly open. To the sound of laughter, music, and fireworks, each member of the family pitches out old crockery, detested ornaments, hated furniture, and a whole catalog of personal possessions which remind them of something in the past year they are determined to wipe out of their minds.

While our litter laws might hinder such a display here in the U.S.A., I think it would be a wonderful idea to mimic in the spirit! Begin the New Year by "throwing out" all the failures of the past year. It has been said that no matter what a person's past looks like, their future is spotless. And how about those old grudges, all the bitterness, and unforgiveness that tends to steal your joy right out from under you - toss them out!

Past failures, unforgiveness, etc...or perhaps material possessions which steal from my relationship/time with God...what do I need to chuck out the window??
